Description
»Nicht Bach! Meer sollte er heißen!« With these words, Ludwig van Beethoven expresses his admiration for Johann Sebastian Bach, whose influence on music history cannot be overestimated. In the current »Bach-Kantaten« cycle, you will encounter Bach, the wonderfully rushing sea of sound, in the company of excellent ensembles and numerous renowned soloists who swim in his waters like tears in the ocean. First and foremost: Lucile Richardot, the gifted contralto, in Bach's St. Matthew Passion with the Ensemble Pygmalion; then: Reinoud Van Mechelen in the debut of his ensemble a nocte temporis with selected cantatas by the Leipzig Thomas-Kantor as well as Sir John Eliot Gardiner with Bach's »Easter Oratorio« and two more of his over 200 cantatas. It is this gigantic corpus of works to which the Swiss J. S. Bach Foundation has also dedicated itself - it will now once again provide proof of its expertise in this area.
