Description
The Vienna Symphony Orchestra offers great works in masterful interpretations, including some rarities: the opening concert, under the expert direction of former chief conductor Fabio Luisi, features a re-encounter with Schmidt's »Book with Seven Seals«. The current chief conductor Petr Popelka presents Mahler's Third and, for the season finale, Beethoven's Fifth, among others. First guest conductor Marie Jacquot will also conduct two concerts, one with the rarely heard »Stabat mater« by Poulenc and the other with Bruckner's 7th Symphony. Philippe Jordan returns to the podium of his former orchestra with his 4th Symphony, the »Romantic«. Bach's Christmas Oratorio will be conducted this time by Fabio Biondi, and Jean-Christophe Spinosi, another conductor with roots in early music, will make his debut with the orchestra. Rudolf Buchbinder interprets three great piano concertos by Mozart and Robert Treviño conducts Tchaikovsky's fateful Fifth.
