In Mozart's day, it was quite common to conduct an orchestra from the violin stand. Leonidas Kavakos emphasizes that this results in »this wonderful togetherness, breathing together.« Together with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Kavakos interprets Mozart's Fourth Violin Concerto as soloist and conductor. Although the child prodigy caused a stir primarily with his skills at the keys, he also played the violin brilliantly – no wonder, since Mozart's father wrote one of the most important violin schools of the 18th century.
Antonín Dvořák's cheerful Symphony No. 8 is also on the program. At his country estate, the composer reports, melodies just flew to him. And you think you can hear the idyllic surroundings with chirping birds and sprouting flowers directly.
