Mariza

For a long time, the Fado was regarded as outdated in Portugal. But with her soft, melting voice, Mariza blew away the thick layer of dust that had accumulated on the melancholic folk music of Portugal. As she stated from the outset, she was simply making music, and therefore had no qualms about integrating elements of gospel, jazz, pop, bossa nova or flamenco. Mariza, who was born in Mozambique and grew up in Portugal, gave her first concerts at the age of just five in her father’s bar in Lisbon.
