Bach-Kantaten
Divorces by someone other than death were uncommon 300 years ago, but farewells - even final ones - were the order of the day. As if to prove the point, the opening of Bach's tongue-in-cheek farewell cantata for the departure of a certain studiosus named Lorenz Beck from Leipzig to Ansbach reads »Non sa che sia dolore / Chi dall'amico suo parte e non more« (»Not knowing what pain is, he who parts from his friends and does not die«.). The orchestra of the J. S. Bach Foundation under Rudolf Lutz will perform the work for the first time in the Vienna Konzerthaus in almost 60 years in what is now its third guest performance in the Bach Cantata cycle. The prima donna of the evening is the Catalonian star soprano Núria Rial, who will also lend spring-like splendor to Bach's wedding cantata »Weichet nur, betrübte Schatten«.
