In baroque dance step to Brahms

The works of Johann Sebastian Bach have accompanied Angela Hewitt since childhood: her father, an organist and ardent admirer of the Baroque grand master, arranged the Toccata in D minor for piano eight hands especially for his family. In Bach's music, Hewitt recalls, she discovered the dance element in her youth. The Canadian-born pianist, who is one of the experts on the Baroque œuvre, has retained this. Thus, in her recital, she precedes Bach's English Suite No. 6 with the light-footed sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti, before turning to the grave side of piano music in Johannes Brahms' Third Sonata.
