Presented by Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft

The »Hottest Stock on the Classical Market«

When Klaus Mäkelä and the Oslo Philharmonic presented their Sibelius cycle on three consecutive days last May at the Vienna Konzerthaus, the jubilation was great among audiences and critics alike: »Accuracy [...] in the developed poetry« praised Der Standard, Die Presse wrote of »a fulminant interpretation«, the Wiener Zeitung characterized the guest performance simply as »impressive«. When »the hottest stock of the future on the classical music market« (Kurier) returns to the Vienna Konzerthaus in November, the same orchestra and its principal conductor will present Tchaikovsky's last symphony, which inspired Sibelius in the late 1890s to write his first symphony and thus, in fact, his career as a symphonic composer. Sol Gabetta shines as the evening's soloist with Shostakovich's gripping First Cello Concerto.
