Orchestras from seven nations in nine concerts live up to the name of this cycle. Italy is represented twice with the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the Filarmonica della Scala, which comes to the Wiener Konzerthaus almost exactly 50 years after its only appearance to date. Under the baton of its music director Riccardo Chailly, it participates in a Mahler focus that includes the Ninth as well as the Sixth. The beginning is monumental with Bruckner's Fifth, which is in equally competent and traditional hands with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and Christian Thielemann. Chopin Competition winner Bruce Liu, Sol Gabetta, our honorary member Martha Argerich and our portrait artist Lisa Batiashvili add soloistic highlights to the opulent orchestral sound.

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Jakub Hrůša will replace the concert of the musicAeterna Orchestra originally scheduled for 11 June 2023 with their concert on 10 May 2023.
