»Doris Knecht: A complete list of all the things I have forgotten«

Doris Knecht is an integral part of the Austrian literary and media landscape – she is known for her columns in the Viennese city newspaper »Falter« and for novels such as »Gruber geht«. The latter even found its way into cinemas, where Manuel Rubey starred in the title role. While »Gruber geht« tells the story of a seriously ill man, she wanted to »write a cheerful book for once« for her latest publication: »Eine vollständige Liste aller Dinge, die ich vergessen habe« (A complete list of all the things I have forgotten) deals with the turning point in a woman's life – her children, the twins Mila and Max, are fledged and allow the 50-year-old mother to wander into a new phase of her life. This not only involves a change in family ties, but also the need to reflect on life as a whole: Does the protagonist need to find a new, possibly smaller, living space? What can she take with her? What needs to be downsized? What sounds like major life tasks is nevertheless, as has been noted in glowing reviews, a “book that delights, inspires and impresses”. Max Wintersperger and Felix Kramer will provide the musical accompaniment to the literary festival. The latter, who released his third album »Oh wie schön das Leben is« in 2023, was inspired by Austrian singer-songwriters such as Ludwig Hirsch as well as chansonniers like Jacques Brel or singer-songwriters like Bob Dylan.
