Between classical and romantic

With Jan Willem de Vriend, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra has had a specialist in historically informed performance practice as its principal conductor since October last year. His programs are correspondingly informed, for example when he highlights milestones of the Classical period and the burgeoning Romantic era. The significance of the so-called »London Bach« for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is taken into account here, as is Mozart's significance for Franz Schubert, who refers almost »literally« to works by his big brother in spirit several times in his 5th Symphony.
