Musical friendships
Since her Konzerthaus debut in 2005, the Argentinian cellist Sol Gabetta has repeatedly caused storms of enthusiasm among Viennese audiences - be it with solo flights of fancy alongside renowned orchestras or as part of chamber music evenings. When she first played with her now long-standing duo partner Bertrand Chamayou, they dedicated themselves to Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's second cello sonata. This will also be heard at the start of Sol Gabetta's portrait series, combined with »Songs without Words« by Wolfgang Rihm and Jörg Widmann as well as related compositions. »I was fascinated to see how these composers, with whom I enjoy working so much, would be attracted by the idea of writing a modern ›song without words‹«, says our portrait artist Sol Gabetta about the project, which she also presented on CD earlier this year.
