The cycle of the same name impressively demonstrates the diversity of chamber music: The formations presented here range from duo to ensemble. Portrait artist Sol Gabetta and Bertrand Chamayou pay homage to Mendelssohn, the inventor of the »Songs without Words«; Emmanuel Pahud and Yefim Bronfman dedicate themselves to flute sonatas from three centuries; Gidon Kremer, Maxim Rysanov and Gautier Capuçon explore the cosmos of Shostakovich's duo sonatas with Yevgeny Kissin; Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Fazıl Say present their own works alongside Beethoven's »Kreutzer Sonata«. At the other end of the scale is the COLLOREDO ensemble, which is dedicated to Mozart with Alexander Melnikov. In between, there is the young Leonkoro Quartet, winner of the Merito String Quartet Award, as well as the traditional string quartet of the Staatskapelle Berlin with audience favorite Elisabeth Leonskaja or an all-star formation that grows from string quartet to string sextet in the last concert of the cycle.
