Great Emotions in Grandiose Prepared Piano
Nils Frahm has quietly changed the musical landscape. He has reincarnated the centuries-old figure of the pianist-composer for a new generation of music lovers. When it comes to defining the space between classical and electronic music, hardly any other name is mentioned as often as Nils Frahm. His unconventional approach to an ancient instrument, which he plays contemplatively and intimately, and his sonic alchemy of ambient textures, neo-classical and atmospheric electronica have won him many fans worldwide. »What I love most about playing in front of people has something to do with a best kind of energy exchange. The attention and appreciation of my audience couples back into my playing. There truly seems to be a constant give and take between performer and listener, which makes me realise just how much I actually depend on my audience. And because the audience is different every night, the music is played differently every time. Every room I've played in has its own magic and spirit.« As Frahm's fan base grew and grew, so did the pop-cultural profile of his instrument. To support this process, he founded »Piano Day« with like-minded people in 2015 to celebrate one of humanity's greatest inventions.
