Natale & quattro stagioni
As is well known, Christmas is always followed by a new year, which is similar to the previous one in many respects, but different in many ways. In this concert, Christmas compositions by Arcangelo Corelli and Joaquín Rodrigo are followed by Vivaldi's »Four Seasons« in Max Richter's »Recomposed: Vivaldi, The four seasons« in a completely new, contemporary guise. However, original Italian baroque sounds can be heard in Corelli's Concerto grosso in G minor op. 6/8 »Fatto per la notte di Natale«. And Rodrigo, a central figure in Spanish musical life, particularly from the 1940s onwards, combines a sarabande with a purely instrumental villancico, a Spanish Christmas carol, in »Zarabanda lejana y Villancico« for string orchestra.
