The man with the camera

A silent film without intertitles, script, actors and sets: With »The Man with the Camera«, Russian director Dziga Vertov developed his own film language and used a variety of new techniques. We experience a day in a fictitious Soviet city from the perspective of a cameraman. Vertov's experimental documentary film, which combines footage from Moscow, Odessa and Kiev, was already well received by audiences at the premiere as a poetic document of the times. Martin Ptak and Martin Eberle create a musical counterpart to the avant-garde masterpiece with jazz and electronic sounds. Composed and improvised sections flow seamlessly into one another, because thanks to their many years of collaboration, the two musicians are »one heart and one soul [...] and feel and know exactly what makes the other tick«.
