Festival Resonanzen »Die Planeten«

Presented by Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft

»Mercury«

Whether daily newspapers like the »Münchner Merkur« and the Chilean »Mercurio« or the hotel chain »Mercure« - they remind us that the nimble Mercury was once the god of orators, travelers and merchants (even thieves!). A traveler on a special mission was the English scholar Charles Burney (1726-1814). The »Diaries of his Musical Travels« are a significant source for 18th century European musical life and its local peculiarities. The young British ensemble Apollo's Cabinet accompanies Burney, the »Mercure musical«, semi-staged to selected stops on his road trips with only one or two horsepower.
