»Cat Power Sings Dylan '66«
In November 2023, Cat Power took to the stage of the Royal Albert Hall in London to perform a song-for-song recreation of one of the most legendary live concerts: In May 1966, that concert took place at the Manchester Free Trade Hall, long known as the »Royal Albert Hall Concert« due to mislabelling. At the original 1966 performance, Bob Dylan switched from acoustic to electric in the middle of the concert, incurring the wrath of folk purists and changing the course of rock'n'roll forever. In her interpretation of this historic evening, Cat Power embodies each song with conviction and grace, conveying the anarchic tension of Dylan's performance with a warm and radiant joy. The album »Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert« features her captivating performance, which both lovingly honours the influence of her hero and gives many of his songs an astonishing new vitality.
