Six great symphonies and five brilliant solo concertos are the masterpieces to be experienced in the cycle of the same name. It will be performed mainly by the Vienna Philharmonic; as an international guest we await the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia from Rome under its principal conductor Sir Antonio Pappano. At the podium of the Vienna Philharmonic will be Philippe Jordan and Franz Welser-Möst, two conductors who, as acting and former music director of the Vienna State Opera, respectively, have particularly close ties to the orchestra, as well as the old masters Herbert Blomstedt and Zubin Mehta. The latter will celebrate his 70th stage anniversary with Daniel Barenboim, who will play two piano concertos on this evening. The other star soloists in this opulent series are Martha Argerich, Leonidas Kavakos and our portrait artist Lisa Batiashvili.
