The festive concerts of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra are designed as a celebration for all fans of Johannes Brahms, the great Viennese by choice from Hamburg: The centerpiece is a chronological performance of the four symphonies in two concerts in January and February. The cycle will open with Brahms' largest vocal work in terms of scope and significance, the »German Requiem,« with which the mid-thirties composer achieved his final breakthrough in 1868. And finally, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Oksana Lyniv, will perform a fifth »symphony« by Brahms, namely Arnold Schoenberg's orchestral arrangement of his first piano quartet. In addition, there is the traditional gala »Spring in Vienna« with our portrait artist Regula Mühlemann and the »Spring Voices« by Brahms' friend Johann Strauss.
