With a bow to one of opera's greatest composers, the Vienna Konzerthaus opens its doors for its 111th season. The 210th birthday of Giuseppe Verdi in October 2023 is a welcome tour occasion for the choir and orchestra of La Scala in Milan and its music director Riccardo Chailly to commemorate the man whose immortal melodies went around the world not least from their house. The chorus and orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper - together with the Vienna Singakademie - also pay tribute to Verdi with a major work, his monumental Requiem. The cycle continues on a grand scale and with top-class performances of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's two oratorios, »Paulus« and »Elias«, Bruckner's »Te Deum« and Mahler's »Rückert-Lieder«, among others. Particularly exciting is the Mendelssohn interpretation by the celebrated French original sound ensemble Pygmalion, which features four debutants. Among the vocal soloists, Louise Alder and Ekaterina Semenchuk as well as Christian Gerhaher and Florian Boesch will shine on the other dates of the cycle.
