Quatuor Mosaïques
4 Konzerte im Mozart-Saal
Saalplan mit 6 und 4 Kategorien (Mozart-Saal)
Both Haydn and Mozart left behind so-called »Prussian Quartets« - string quartets, in other words, which they dedicated to the Prussian King Frederick William II, an enthusiastic cellist. Both series of works are represented in the cycle of the Quatuor Mosaïques, which specializes in Haydn and Mozart in their original sound: Haydn with the second, fifth and sixth of his »Prussian Quartets« of 1787 (as well as the immediately preceding quartet Hob. III/43), Mozart with the third of his, only three years younger. In addition, there are works of the early Romantic period, including Schubert's magnificent string quintet, which, with its two cello parts, is not in the tradition of Mozart's quintets, but in that of Boccherini's quintets, which number well over a hundred.
