It stands at the beginning and at the end: Bach's B minor Mass, a milestone in music history. The Sanctus from it, which Bach wrote as early as 1724 for a Christmas service in Leipzig, will be heard on the first evening of the traditional Bach cantata cycle by the French ensemble Pygmalion and Raphaël Pichon - they recently attracted attention with a concise recording of the »St. Matthew Passion«. At the beginning of the program the young conductor sets a chorus from a cantata from the same year. The young star's interpretation is contrasted with a complete performance of the Mass by doyen Philippe Herreweghe with his Collegium Vocale Gent. The orchestra of the J. S. Bach Foundation from St. Gallen, conducted by Rudolf Lutz, which has been dedicated to the complete performance of Bach's vocal works since 2006, devotes itself to three thematically related cantatas for the Sunday of the Good Shepherd. Among the outstanding singers with whom the ensembles will be performing are Nikola Hillebrand, Manuel Walser, Dorothee Mields and Alex Potter.
