The Vienna Symphony Orchestra and four international guest orchestras will present the »card complete« cycle in the 2023/24 season: The opening concert with the Cleveland Orchestra, one of the very best orchestras in the world, and its long-time music director Franz Welser-Möst is particularly outstanding. The evening will be devoted to the music of Gustav Mahler, with a selection of his early songs sung by the superb British baritone Simon Keenlyside. Two concerts will be carried by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, once with American star violinist Joshua Bell, veteran Christoph Eschenbach on the podium and an all-Tchaikovsky program, and then again with multi-percussionist Christoph Sietzen and the popular 2nd Symphony by Rachmaninoff. As further international guests we expect the young Estonian Festival Orchestra under its charismatic founder Paavo Järvi, the enchanting Sol Gabetta as soloist and a highly romantic Slavic program, the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden together with Sir András Schiff will live up to its reputation as a traditional orchestra, and an equally classical program like this will be presented at the end by the Basel Symphony Orchestra under Ivor Bolton with Mozart's D minor Piano Concerto and Beethoven's »Creatures of Prometheus«.
