Great art in the Great Hall: the crème de la crème of the piano world paints colorful tableaux from Baroque to Impressionism. Martha Argerich opens the cycle with her mentee Sophie Pacini: in perfect symbiosis on two pianos, they create an ovation to the playful and joyful genius of Mozart and the epitome of Romantic piano art Franz Liszt. Nikolai Lugansky, an expert on Romanticism, also directs our attention to the 19th century: His excursion to Mendelssohn, Chopin, Liszt and Wagner is multi-faceted. Mitsuko Uchida and Sir András Schiff devote themselves to their core repertoire with a selection of Baroque, Classical and Romantic masterpieces. Two high-caliber cycle debuts are scheduled with the recitals by Seong-Jin Cho and Krystian Zimerman: While we discover Ravel's oeuvre with the former on the occasion of his 150th birthday, Krystian Zimerman - like grand seigneur Grigory Sokolov - has a surprise in store for us.
