10 Konzerte im Großen Saal
Saalplan mit 8 Kategorien (Großer Saal)
Petr Popelka, the new chief conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, conducts the opening and closing concerts of the cycle of the same name in the orchestra's 125th season. The orchestra welcomes Anna Vinnitskaya, Rudolf Buchbinder, Martha Argerich, Alexander Melnikov and Renaud Capuçon as soloists. In addition to the current conductor, former chief conductor Philippe Jordan will also be performing Mahler's 8th Symphony, one of the main works in the cycle. Other milestones in music history include Anton Bruckner's 9th Symphony, premiered by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in 1903, and Bach's Christmas Oratorio, interpreted by early music expert Václav Luks. First guest conductor Marie Jacquot and her predecessor Lahav Shani present particularly interesting programmes. They join a line-up of conductors ranging from young debutant Aivis Greters to old master Christoph Eschenbach.
