Raphaël Pichon's Pygmalion with a top-class St John Passion and Konzerthaus honorary member Sir John Eliot Gardiner, who precedes Bach's obligatory cantatas with Charpentier's dance-like and lively »Midnight Mass« in the run-up to Christmas, are the heavyweights in this cycle. Three years ago, the Orchestra of the J. S. Bach Foundation was the great discovery for our audience. Since then, the Swiss Bach specialists have been invited back - their concerts are entertainingly presented by conductor Rudolf Lutz. This season, they are joined by Michi Gaigg's L'Orfeo Baroque Orchestra, which opens the cycle with Bach's shortest church cantata, namely the solo cantata for bass »Der Friede sei mit dir«, which was composed in Weimar.
