Belcea & Ébène
5 Konzerte im Mozart-Saal
Saalplan mit 6 und 4 Kategorien (Mozart-Saal)
In their programs, the Belcea Quartet and Quatuor Ébène span the spectrum from Viennese classical music to contemporary compositions in their usual manner. The Belcea Quartet, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and violist Tabea Zimmermann will open the cycle with two of Mozart's six string quintets, which define the genre. The other concerts are then dedicated to juxtapositions of works by the classics Haydn, Mozart and/or Beethoven and compositions from later periods. They include the last of the three string quartets by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Benjamin Britten, which were composed almost exactly a century apart. Raphaël Merlin, cellist of Quatuor Ébène until 2024, will compose a new work for his longstanding ensemble colleagues. The brilliant finale features Arnold Schoenberg's 1st String Quartet in a large-scale single movement and Beethoven's late quartet op. 131 with a total of seven movements, which is decidedly unconventional.
