Meisterwerke
7 Konzerte im Großen Saal
Saalplan mit 8 Kategorien (Großer Saal)
This cycle is characterised not only by the masterpieces that give it its title, but also by stars of the classical music scene: the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which performs more than half of the concerts, is conducted by Andris Nelsons, Alain Altinoglu, Franz Welser-Möst and old master Zubin Mehta. Guest orchestras include the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of their respective chief conductors Daniel Harding, Sir Simon Rattle and Sir Antonio Pappano. The line-up of soloists is no less glamorous: Violinist Lisa Batiashvili, for example, will perform solo concertos by Mozart and Prokofiev, with whose other violin concerto Midori will open the cycle, while our youngest honorary member Elīna Garanča will sing in Mahler's »Lied von der Erde«. The broad programmatic framework is thus also defined: In addition to masterpieces from the Romantic and late Romantic periods, such as symphonies by Berlioz, Bruckner, Brahms and Mahler or tone poems by Richard Strauss, Mozart and his last three symphonies play a major role this time.
