Saalplan mit 6 Kategorien (Großer Saal)
Compact concerts and relaxed endings are the successful concept of the »Fridays@7« cycle with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. Audience favourite Rudolf Buchbinder begins with the virtuoso Burleske by Richard Strauss, one of his favourite pieces, followed by the monumental 2nd Symphony by Jean Sibelius. Only slightly younger than Sibelius and also a friend of his was Ferruccio Busoni, whose »Idomeneo« paraphrase opens a particularly interesting Mozart evening under the direction of chief conductor Petr Popelka. The concert continues with a Slavic programme - Alexander Melnikov is the soloist in Sergei Rachmaninoff's rousing Paganini Rhapsody. The soloist in the last concert of the cycle is Sol Gabetta with the popular 1st Cello Concerto by Camille Saint-Saëns.
