Ars Antiqua Austria - Gunar Letzbor's specialist ensemble for »New Austrian Baroque Music« is exploring its roots and new paths to Haydn and Mozart in the current edition of its cycle at the Vienna Konzerthaus. The first recording of the collection »Encaenia Musices« by Linz-born Romanus Weichlein caused a musical sensation over 20 years ago. With the rediscovery of the oeuvre of Franz Josef Aumann, who worked in St. Florian, Ars Antiqua Austria also brought a forgotten link between Mozart and Haydn to the attention of a wider public.
Finally, the third concerto in the cycle is dedicated to the great violin master of the Austrian Baroque, Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber, and here, too, Gunar Letzbor and his colleagues do not resort to clichés, but dedicate themselves to a milestone in the literature for solo violin that is still often respectfully avoided by interpreters, with the first part of his sonata collection published in 1681.
