The Standard Subscription invites you to a wealth of live musical experiences at the Vienna Konzerthaus in the 22/23 season, with a diverse range of opulent orchestral concerts, glittering soloist names, early and new music, world music, jazz, pop and comedy.
If one travels through the history of music by listening, one often meets great-sounding old acquaintances in everyday concert life. After all, masterpieces last forever in programs, and even the standard subscription offers the opportunity for interesting re-encounters. The Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia with conductor Sir Antonio Pappano plays Bruckner's Symphony No. 7, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra with pianist Kirill Gerstein and conductor Mirga Gražinyte-Tyla interprets Schumann's Piano Concerto op. 54. These are well-known works, but a new look at them is worthwhile. »The real voyage of discovery consists not in exploring new landscapes, but in seeing old things with new eyes!« said poet Marcel Proust. Applied to music, one would add: Interpreters help to hear in a new way. The most important aspects of music are not written in the notes, they are brought to life by musicians. How, for example, will Julia Hagen - accompanied by the Vienna RSO and conductor Julian Rachlin - interpret Dvořák's Concerto for Violoncello? Similar questions arise for violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja or pianist Fazıl Say and percussionist Martin Grubinger. They create excitement, and so do artists from other stylistic areas: Jazz trumpeter Thomas Gansch meets multi-instrumentalist Herbert Pixner, who can also be heard with Ursula Strauss and Ernst Molden at »Oame Söö«. And the project »A MoodSwing Reunion« is also exciting: pianist Brad Mehldau and saxophonist Joshua Redman are re-founding the quartet with which their world careers began. They, too, will probably reinterpret pieces from the past.
