»The most beautiful torso in the history of music«
The city of Bamberg has UNESCO world heritage status and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra see themselves as their home town's cultural ambassadors. They have chosen to perform Schubert's Unfinished Symphony, dubbed the »most beautiful torso in the history of music« as part of their guest apperance here. With their characteristically rich and dark sound, the orchestra will perform both Schubert's and Bruckner's Seventh Symphonies, two core works of the romantic symphonic repertore. With his »Seventh«, Bruckner finally achieved the artistic recognition he had always longed for. To our modern ears, the criticism often levelled against Bruckner's symphonies during his lifetime may sound strange. So it's all the more gratifying to hear such criticism proved wrong when the symphony is performed by such experts of the romantic repertoire, namely the Bamberg Symphony and Herbert Blomstedt.
