Intoxicating virtuosity
The Georgian piano virtuoso Khatia Buniatishvili came into contact with the works of Franz Liszt at a very early age, and like him, she has a pendant for transcriptions. With Mikhail Pletnev’s superlative arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, she proves that the concert grand is an instrument of transformation and one which can easily slip into the role of any orchestral instrument. With the same intoxicating virtuosity, the pianist, who mermerizes audiences from the moment she appears on stage, will also perform Brahms' F-minor sonata, a work of symphonic dimensions.
