New Perspectives
As a scholarship holder of the Anne Sophie Mutter Foundation and winner of the ECHO Klassik, double bassist Dominik Wagner presents his instrument internationally from a new perspective. Wagner has won prizes in almost all double bass competitions, including the renowned ARD Music Competition, the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition and the Bradetich International Competition. As a soloist, he has performed with many orchestras, such as the BR Symphony Orchestra, the WDR Symphony Orchestra and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen in renowned concert halls. An important part of his career is the expansion and enrichment of the double bass repertoire. Besides his engagements as a soloist, Dominik Wagner shows a great passion for chamber music. Besides standard pieces he creates new constellations and explores new repertoire.
This is also how the collaboration with Can Çakmur came about. The Turkish pianist won first prizes at the 10th Hamamatsu International Piano Competition 2018 and at the Scottish International Piano Competition 2017. Çakmur performs in concert halls such as Usher Hall in Edinburgh, Salle Cortot in Paris, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, Lithuanian Philharmonic, ACT City Hama matsu and Fazioli Hall (Sacile), as well as in the most important concert halls in his home country. Born in Ankara in 1997, he studied at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, among others, and received the Young Musician Award 2015 at the Donizetti Classical Music Awards in Istanbul, the DAAD Prize 2018 of the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar and the Aydin Gün Career Support Prize 2019 of the Istanbul Music Festival.
Together, Dominik Wagner and Can Çakmur will create a very personal program: among other things, they will premiere a fantasy penned by Wolfram Wagner, the young bassist's father.
