Presented by Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft

Pure Romanticism

Matthias Goerne is often praised as an »ambassador of German art song.« The former artist in residence of the Wiener Konzerthaus returns to the Mozart Hall for the first time together with the Austrian pianist and artistic director of the Salzburg Festival Markus Hinterhäuser. The centerpiece of their Schumann Lieder recital is that cycle which, according to the composer, is »the most romantic of all« – the Liederkreis op. 39 after Eichendorff, written in the song year 1840. But the ingenious duo also presents rarities: the dramatic »Lion's Bride« can be heard as well as selected songs from »Wilhelm Meister« or the poems of Queen Mary Stuart. A romantic evening par excellence, in which Matthias Goerne enchants with his soft, versatile baritone.
