Graz and Greece

Graz and Greece have much more to do with each other than that both toponyms begin with the same two letters – not least in the field of contemporary music. For example, the Greek composers Stylianos Dimou and Zesses Seglias studied with Beat Furrer in Graz, and the impuls Academy there has attracted composer Georgia Koumarà as well as these two. No wonder that the Schallfeld Ensemble, founded in Graz in 2013 by former students of Klangforum Wien – today one of the best formations for contemporary music in Austria and far beyond – maintains close contacts with Greek composers. This happy relationship can be heard in an evening devoted entirely to current Greek music, with which Schallfeld finally makes its debut in the »Nouvelles Aventures« cycle.
