Sunday Matinee - Sacred & Secular
Mass settings of the Viennese Classical period are among the unfortunate stepchildren of the concert business, and time and again it is the Wiener KammerOrchester that endeavors to fill this gap in the repertoire canon. Thus, the C major Mass by the 19-year-old Franz Schubert has never been performed by any other ensemble in the Vienna Konzerthaus than in 1990 for the first time and now - 32 years later - once again by the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. The Vienna Boys' Choir vouch for the choral quality of this musical Sunday service, which leads into a turbulent excerpt after the intermission with Haydn's suite from his incidental music to the German prose version of Jean-François Regnard's verse comedy »Le Distrait« (»The Distracted One«).
