Presented by Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft

»Joy, daughter from Elysium!«

His debut with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, planned for the beginning of December 2021, unfortunately fell victim to the Corona pandemic, but a good year later the time has finally come: after several acclaimed performances at the Vienna Konzerthaus with "his" Oslo Philharmonic, Klaus Mäkelä will take the podium of a Viennese orchestra for the first time - and at one of the most traditional events that this city's concert life has to offer. Since 1975/76, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Singakademie have regularly celebrated the turn of the year with Beethoven's Ninth, and while it was the legendary old master Erich Leinsdorf who conducted their performances back then, now, with the only 26-year-old Klaus Mäkelä, the designated principal conductor of the Concertgebouw Orchestra joins the illustrious succession of star conductors who have had and continue to have these joyful notes intoned in the Vienna Konzerthaus.
