A Heart for People

Among American writers, she was certainly not the one who produced the most extensive oeuvre, but she was nevertheless no less important a voice: Carson McCullers is one of the most important representatives of the Southern Renaissance. She always focused on people - and their fate. In her stories and novels (»The Heart is a Lonely Hunter«), McCullers showed empathy for outsiders and anti-heroes. Her own life was by no means like a Hollywood movie: her health was not the best, her marriage was in crisis, and her love for Annemarie Schwarzenbach remained unrequited. A career as a concert pianist was prevented by rheumatism. But like hardly anyone else, she illuminated the quirks of her main characters - for example in her story »Madame Zilensky and the King of Finland« - with great empathy and a quiet smile. The literature of an extraordinary author is presented by Caroline Peters, Peter Rosmanith on hang and other percussion instruments creates a musical echo.
