Fireworks of flashes of genius

The composition is one of the most popular piano works of the Romantic period: Saint-Saëns' Second Piano Concerto. The work received Liszt's effusive praise: a firework of flashes of genius and rousing rhythms that ends in a tarantella. Alexandre Kantorow, an expert in the field of virtuosity thanks in no small part to his award-winning recordings of Saint-Saëns' piano concertos, serves as tour guide through the opulent opus. At the age of only 22, the pianist won the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition: the first French pianist to do so. The performance of the work will be flanked by a no less well-known composition by Saint-Saëns, namely the »Danse macabre«, and Korngold's Symphony in F sharp major op. 40.
