Sound journeys to the sea

Manuel de Falla was living in Paris when he composed his »Nights in Spanish Gardens«. But he had by no means forgotten his Andalusian homeland, as the sonic impressions from Granada and Córdoba prove in his piano concerto. And Maurice Ravel also distilled Spanish color fireworks for his »Rapsodie espagnole«, which he interwove with his tonal language. Claude Debussy, on the other hand, created an impressionistic portrait of the glittering, roaring sea with his symphonic sketches »La mer«. The fluctuating sound fabric connects these compositions with György Ligeti's »Lontano«, a milestone of New Music. Conductor Michel Tabachnik and pianist Gabriela Montero will take you on a journey of sound.
