Presented by Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft

»The finest thing of its kind …«

... so George Bernard Shaw raved about the tragic thematic conflict that Edward Elgar exposes between piano and string quartet in the first movement of his only piano quintet. The elegantly conservative - and thus »very British« in the best sense of the word - work is a showcase for the dream team of the Minetti Quartet and Kit Armstrong, who will make their first appearance at the Wiener Konzerthaus on this occasion. Before that, Haydn's hymnal »Emperor« and Dmitri Shostakovich's melancholy 7th String Quartet, which with a total playing time of less than 15 minutes represents the composer's shortest and most concentrated contribution to the genre, will be heard.
