»Meafela Leora - from darkness to light«

The art of Chasanut, Jewish cantorial singing, is the focus of this unique concert under the motto »Meafela Leora - from darkness to light« in commemoration of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp 78 years ago. The choir of the Great Synagogue of Jerusalem, the only institutionally anchored synagogue choir in Israel, will perform together with Shmuel Barzilai, the internationally sought-after singer and chief cantor of the Jewish Community of Vienna. Shmuel Barzilai sees himself as a cultural ambassador for Judaism, as he reported in a press interview back in 2010: »It's important to me to show the beautiful culture of the Jews.« An intention that will be realized musically in November in the Great Hall: The audience will be introduced to traditional prayers and their timeless melodies, as well as old Jewish songs and religious tunes from the Stetl.
