Sound Jewels

»We musicians must be concerned with understanding the mechanisms of action of sound: What chords, melodies, frictions does a composer use to appeal to the people in the audience. Our task is to make these moments [...] sound. In such a way that we create emotion«, Christian Thielemann explains his artistic intention. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy must also have been moved when he traveled to Scotland in 1829. The »Hebrides« Overture, named after the group of rocky islands west of Scotland, as well as his Third Symphony were inspired by the trip. In mid-December, the Vienna Philharmonic and Christian Thielemann will juxtapose Mendelssohn's »Scottish« with Johannes Brahms' Third Symphony. »Every movement a jewel!« raved Clara Schumann about the magnificent work by the Viennese by choice.
