Past and present

The pianist and composer Eduard Kutrowatz described a movement of his Concerto No. 1 for two pianos, string orchestra and percussion as an homage to Franz Liszt. The concerto, which was composed between 2015 and 2018, will be performed by the Kutrowatz piano duo. A composition by Franz Liszt will also be heard at the Vienna Chamber Orchestra's matinee: The Vienna Chamber Orchestra performs an arrangement for string orchestra of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, which is probably one of the most famous works by the Romantic composer. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's »Serenata Notturna«, on the other hand, is reminiscent of a much older sound practice: Its structure borrows from the Baroque concerto grosso technique and makes it clear how vital a much older music-making practice was in Mozart's time.
