The program of the British vocal ensemble VOCES8 with baroque violinist Rachel Podger revolves around supernatural beings who guide and protect us. The program alternates between choral works by Orlando Gibbons or Heinrich Schütz and compositions for violin such as the passacaglia »The Guardian Angel« from Heinrich Ignaz von Biber's »Rosary Sonatas« and the Partita in A minor BWV 1013 for flute by Johann Sebastian Bach. Inspired by alternating liturgical chants, in which a precentor alternates with the chorale schola, Rachel Podger leads the eight singers to immortality as guardian angels in some parts of the program: a heavenly program with beguiling sounds from Podger's violin and VOCES8 and compositions from the Baroque and contemporary periods.
