Between Eros and Thanatos

Not simply a jazz concert, but an original song cycle for the composer herself and a 13-piece chamber ensemble awaits the audience with »Ogresse«, a work by the exceptional artist and Grammy winner Cécile McLorin Salvant: »A dark, mysterious fairy tale about the balance between love, life and death, ending on a mountain full of snakes and flowers ...« This is how Cécile McLorin Salvant sums up the story of »Ogresse« in a few words. In its final version, the extensive project she has been developing for several years will take the form of an animated film produced in collaboration with Belgian director Lia Bertels; pending its completion, »Ogresse« will be performed in a concert version. The unusual work premiered at the prestigious Metropolitan Opera in New York in September 2018 and has since been performed in several major U.S. and European concert halls. Cécile McLorin Salvant is not only the author of the libretto and composer, but also the principal interpreter and illustrator. For several years she has developed a talent as a draftswoman - the curious can find a selection of her drawings on her website. And she also designed the costume she wears during performances of the work.
