Verklärte Nacht
Six outstanding chamber musicians from different generations reconstruct a concert evening from 1902. Arnold Schönberg caused a scandal with his string sextet »Verklärte Nacht«. It was based on a poem by Richard Dehmel that was considered immoral. "It sounds as if you've wiped over the wet »Tristan« score," was one of the reactions at the time. The same concert featured Johannes Brahms' »spring product«, his String Quintet No. 1, composed in Bad Ischl in 1882, which he himself described as one of his »prettiest pieces«. The program begins with a string quartet by Hermann Grädener, a friend of Brahms, a rarity.
