Fairytale tale
This time, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Lahav Shani, performs Arnold Schoenberg's richly orchestrated symphonic poem »Pelleas and Melisande« as listeners take their seats between the musicians in the spacious parterre of the Great Hall. While Fauré, Sibelius and Debussy wrote incidental music or an opera about the unfulfilled love of the mysterious Princess Melisande for Pelleas, whom the ageing King Golo takes to his castle, Schönberg approached the drama purely instrumentally. Cellist Maria Grün and violinist Stefan Pöchhacker, both members of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, will present the performance.
