Alexander Melnikov's programs do not follow fashions, his CD recordings are of timeless class: BBC Music Magazine ranked his recording of Shostakovich's Praludies and Fugues among the fifty most important recordings of all time. In his three-part portrait series, the multi-award-winning pianist, who counted Sviatoslav Richter among his mentors, gives an insight into his artistry: in recital with Shostakovich's benchmark cycle, as a soloist with Rachmaninoff's highly virtuoso Paganini Rhapsody and as a chamber musician with the COLLOREDO ensemble, in which pure Mozart is on the program.
